I'm the maker of this boilerplate so likely biased. But I got skin in the game because I built this boilerplate for myself, to update all my old info directories. Love how easy it is to drop it into Netlify, tweak colors, images, and it's live in 1-2h! Best part? No dependency hell, no endless security updates whatsoever. In theory it can last a decade without me touching the code.

I honestly love that is simple. I think this is key. Nothing over complicating will make people love it. I’m really excited to build out lots of stuff. This is what I have been looking for for awhile. I use to do Wordpress but it sucked compared to this. And I’m no pro coder. But I know vanilla js css html. So this is really perfect.

It’s been a while since I navigated “pure” HTML/JS code but it was a breeze of fresh air. Navigating the code and customizing the site was super easy for me but I do know my way around so I don’t know if it counts. The default site looks good, responsive, modern, I really like it!

I like the style and the design of the website. I like the simplicity that it doesn't need a package manager and everything is vanilla JavaScript. This makes it simple.

About

profile image of founderHey makers! Jason here 👋 I'm the founder and chief builder for Lists Kit.

I love creating info directories, and run 10 of them. Info directories are super underrated. Amongst the product types, it’s one of the more passive forms of side income. Once you commit to the initial upfront effort of compiling the list, it’s amazingly easy to launch, even easier to run.

The problem with my directories is that they are all over the place, on different platforms. Some have vendor lock-in and cost quite a bit to host, others keep requiring maintenance due to security/software updates.

Plus I hate dependency hell and endless security updates for my websites. Especially for simple, single-page sites that don't get crazy traffic. All that maintenance feels like over-engineering. Dependencies are future debt.

These factors kept holding me back from launching new info directories fast, so I thought,

"What if I could just drop a simple index.html file into my web host, tweak color and copy, add images, and it's done, within a day?!"

I wanted something simple to launch, low to no maintenance, but lasts forever. So I decided to make my own boilerplate to do just that. Lists Kit was the result.

FAQs

Who is this boilerplate NOT for?
Not gonna lie, Lists Kit isn't for 10x engineers who love to code everything themselves. It's for folks who can code but want to code as little as possible, so that they can focus on the business. So this boilerplate isn't a good fit for you or your project if:

  • You're a seasoned developer who can code blindfolded, have loads of time and prefer to DIY everything.
  • If you prefer using NextJS, React or any Javscript framework to build simple websites, and don't mind frequent overhead of updating and maintaining them.
  • A small-medium business owner who never launched products nor touched coding before, and need lots of hand-holding to even edit simple HTML, CSS.
  • If you don't know what HTML, CSS and JavaScript is, and not interested to learn.
  • For complex and huge info directories that require lots of dynamic data, needs hundreds of pages, and needs realtime and frequent updates (like multiple times daily) that needs to be automated.
Who is this boilerplate for?
This boilerplate is a single index.html file consisting of HTML, CSS and JavaScript code. If you're a 'prosumer', you'll like this. Great for folks like:

  • A seasoned developer who can code blindfolded but would rather use a template to save time.
  • A web designer who knows patches of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and prefer using a template that he can edit instead of coming up with his own code.
  • A nocode maker who launched products before, don't know how to code, but wouldn't mind getting his hands dirty coding with some guidance and documentation.
  • Anyone who's tired of maintaining simple websites built with modern JavaScript frameworks, and rather use a simple stack of plain vanilla HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • For small and simple info directories that don't have lots of dynamic data, needs just 1 or a few pages, and only needs occasional updates (like monthly or yearly) that you don't mind editing manually.
What happens after I pay?
I'll add you to the Github repository and you can fork the repo right away to start building your info directory. Also check out the documentation, and join the Lists Kit Telegram group for support.
Can I use it for unlimited sites?
Yes you can! Pay once, use forever on unlimited sites.
What am I allowed to do with it?
Standard media policy and common sense apply. As long as you don't use it for hate, violence, or anything criminal. No sharing or reselling in part or whole.
Any discounts for non-profits or tech for good projects?
Yes! 100% discount—meaning FREE!—for non-profit organisations, charities, ground-up community initiatives, or any project that's for social impact, public good or helping vulnerable groups/individuals.
